Overview of the Philippines - Luxembourg Bilateral Relations

The Philippines has signed the following agreements with Luxembourg:

  • Air Services Agreement between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on 20 November 2001 in Luxembourg City; and
  • Agreement on the Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments between the Government of the Philippines and the Belgo-Luxembourg Economic Union, on 14 January 1998 in Manila.  This agreement was ratified by the Philippines on 27 February 1998 and was entered into force on 19 December 2003.

The Philippines and Luxembourg are currently firming up the proposed bilateral Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation, the first round of negotiations of which will commence in November 2008 in Manila.

Luxembourg supported the Philippine Government in the latter's concerns in the European Union on the Canned Tuna issue.  With its two votes in the Council, Luxembourg supported the proposal that EU should provide MFN-based tariff-rate quota (TRQ) of 25,000 metric tons, with an in-quota rate of 12%.

Luxembourg likewise supported the request of the Philippines to include the NPA and Jose Maria Sison in the EU's list of Terrorist Persons/Organizations.
